Di you know that here is an 8,2 km long wonderful floodlit trail for cross country skiing in Narvikfjellet or trails for mountain skiing and hiking through Tøttadalen in the same area?
Cross country skiing in Kobberstadløypa
Kobberstadløypa is the city's floodlit trail and is driven by Narvik Skiklubb. The floodlit trail is 6,5 km long (8,2 km long from Skistua) and tursn up Narvikfjellet to the left of the resort and into Tøttadalen.
Kobberstadløypa has a hilly and varied terrain and spans 100 altitudes from the starting area to the top point. Lysløypa are adapted for both styles, with double classical tracks all the way up to the turn point. Children and families thrive well in the lower part of the floodlit trail, where the rounds are shorter with fewer altitudes. The more experienced and trained skiers go to the turn point at 8 km several times before they end the session. Perhaps you are one of the ones who just wants to enjoy the view? In Kobberstadløypa there is room for everyone, no matter what skill level, age or goal you may have for the trip.
Kobberstadløypa prepares at snowfall and otherwise about 3 times per week. On skitrack.no you can fin updated information at all times about when the groomers/Snowcat has been there, if the groomer is out and running now, and which areas that were last prepared.
It is forbidden to walk in the tracks by foot or go skiing with dogs. This is because the deep track will be devastation for other people's skiing experience. For those who want to go on their feet into Tøttadalen, or take the dog with them when they go skiing, the gateway at the Mini-power plant at the end of Reinveien can be used.
How long does the season last?
The ski season in Kobberstadløypa and Tøttadalen normally stretches from November to the end of April. From 2016, Kobberstadløypa is part of Narvikfjellet's snow-production system with its own production unit, which means greater operational security and longer ski season.
Narvikfjellet in cooperation with Narvik Skiklubb makes classic cross country tracks all the way from old Skistua and into Kobberstadløypa along Familiebakken and beyond Asbjørnstua. This way, new parking facilities in the children's area, also can be used for cross country skiing. We recommend using these parking areas, as the capacity at the entrance in Reinveien is very limited.
The way from Lysløypa to Tøttadalen?
Since 2015 Narvik Skiklubb and Narvikfjellet have worked hard to find solutions for upgrading hiking trails in Tøttadalen and Narvikfjellet. There are applications made for funding of these projects.
New tracks towards Tøttadalen!
At the autumn of 2017, 2 km of tracks was expanded. Now it is possible to ski all the way from the old Skistua parking area and almost all the way to Pumpvannet at 325 mas. The new route runs in a hilly terrain with breathtaking views of the city, Øyjord, Hålogalandsbrua and Rombakken. Is is also possible to make use of this great tracks as a trip to hiking without a dog, starting from Taraldsvik mini-power station. Also in the summer, the track is available to all users from the old Skistua.
Narvik has with this been given an "active city terrain park" it can be proud of. Residents and visitors have been given a well organized trips, exercise and fitness facility in the middle of the city. This is just a beginning of a larger development.
